The beta was then released as an update on 1 July (which was only available to members), along with an extensive website update. It was for members for a whole of ~2 weeks before it was released for f2p players on the 14th.ĭuring late June, Jagex stopped all other updates to the game in order to focus on the graphics overhaul, which was said to be due out in "early July". Which did boost RS3's player numbers, and I imagine Jagex also saw a big rise in profits as OSRS players paid for MTX so they could access the end-game content quicker.
#OSBUDDY SCREEN MARKER FULL#
I know I may just be going full tinfoil hat with that thought, but during the content drought a lot of OSRS content creators tried out RS3 and seemed to really like it. So it would make more sense for Jagex to try and get rid of OSRS and have the OSRS team work on RS3 making it more appealing, adding more content, and in turn making more money from MTX. But OSRS isn't a huge cash-cow, you have subscriptions and bonds. The OSRS team has some great staff, from the content designers to the developers. However, the sceptic in me can't help but think the last year has been a big drive to try and kill OSRS. And until Jagex is at least on-par with RL, people won't want to switch, and will riot again. Even with the updates to the official client, RL is still leaps and bounds ahead and Jagex will never be able to catch up. I think we can all agree if RuneLite (and OSBuddy prior) didn't exist, then there'd be a lot less people playing OSRS. Chunk-locked ironman) because you can't lay ground markers, or anything like that. They have 1 main "addon" that is allowed (Alt1) which cannot actually interact with the game, like RuneLite does, and means that certain types of accounts are just not possible (e.g. RS3 doesn't allow 3rd party clients, and whilst they don't have bots on the level OSRS does, there's still a lot of bots at certain activities. Why would Jagex spend dev time & resources on adding that to the game, just so a handful of content creators can make funny cinematics?Īnd it's all well and good banning 3rd party clients to reduce botting. There will be some feature that a lot of players want/need that the official client won't do that a 3rd party would have allowed.įor example, the door-kicker plugin. Even then, if they got every feature of every RL plugin in the game when they released the client.
